Why Not?

If there's one question I've started asking myself more often, it's this:

Why not?

Not someday.
Not when I have more time.
Not when I know enough.
Not when I'm finally good at it.

Just... why not now?

For years, I convinced myself that every creative pursuit needed a plan. I needed the perfect supplies, the perfect workspace, the perfect idea, and enough confidence to believe I could actually pull it off.

The funny thing is none of those things ever arrived all at once.

What did arrive was curiosity.

Curiosity—and my appreciation for beauty in nature, thoughtful design, and the quiet beauty of everyday life—led me to pick up a canvas and some acrylic paints. I wanted to learn to paint what I saw. In the process, I learned to see even more: the play of light and shadow, the tiny details I'd once overlooked, the scale of a landscape, and the depth that gives a scene life.

I am a self-taught artist, and although my work is far from perfect, every painting is a reflection of where I am on this creative journey.

One painting became another, and another, until I found myself creating regularly—giving some away, selling others when I could, and filling my home and studio with pieces that marked each step along the way.

Then curiosity wandered somewhere else.

It wanted to experiment with resin.

It wanted to play with color, texture, glass, gemstones, and ideas that didn't fit neatly into a single category.

Eventually I discovered wire wrapping, wire weaving, and stone setting, and I've been exploring those art forms with the same curiosity ever since.

Every time I heard that little voice saying, "You don't know how to do that," I started answering with another question:

Why not learn? Why not now?

Maybe that's what creativity really is.

Not waiting until we're experts.

Not waiting until someone gives us permission.

Not waiting until everything is perfect.

Just giving ourselves permission to begin.

That's where the idea behind Random Acts of Art was born.

It's more than a tagline. It's a reminder that creativity doesn't have to stay in one lane. One day I may be wrapping a gemstone in sterling silver. The next I may be painting a shoreline on canvas, experimenting with mixed media, or chasing an idea I've never tried before.

Some projects will become favorites.

Some will quietly teach me something before finding their way to the back of a shelf.

Both are valuable.

Because every piece of art, successful or not, makes the next one possible.

This blog is my invitation to bring you along for that journey.

I'll share the stories behind my jewelry, the lessons learned from projects that didn't quite go as planned, the excitement of discovering new materials, and the moments that remind me why making art matters in the first place.

You won't just see the finished pieces.

You'll see the sketches, the experiments, the happy accidents, and yes—the occasional spectacular failure.

Because that's where the real story lives.

If something here inspires you to pick up a paintbrush, a pair of pliers, a camera, a sketchbook—or anything else you've been putting off—then this little corner of the internet has done its job.

So if you've been waiting for the perfect moment to start something you've been dreaming about—whether it's painting, writing, building, gardening, learning, or simply trying something new—let me leave you with the same question I've been asking myself:

Why not?

You may surprise yourself.

And if nothing else, you'll have a story worth telling.

After all, every artist starts with a first attempt.

Welcome to the studio.

I'm glad you're here.
